Are the super heroes heading to Korea? With “The Avengers” currently filming in Korea, the production company of “The Amazing Spider-Man” hinted at the possibility of filming in Korea as well. Producer Avi Arad attended a press conference for Asian promotion of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” at Ritz Carlton Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, on the 31st and said that he was looking for a background that’s not the USA when a reporter referred to “The Avengers” filming in Korea.
“Perhaps the next sequel could be filmed in Korea,” he said and hinted at the prospects. Avi Arad explained that many movies are shot in different countries because the characters that appear in the movie are from different countries. 
Avi Arad seemed eager to make connections between “The Amazing Spider-Man” and Korea in other areas as well. First, he explained that the hansik scene in the movie was not put in to target the Korean market, but because hansik is very popular in America. Furthermore, director Marc Webb referred to the possibility of including a Korean song in the OST and the significance of releasing the movie first in Korea on April 24. The prequel drew in almost 5 million moviegoers in Korea. 
Although it is too early to say anything for certain about “The Amazing Spider-Man” filming in Korea, the production team’s positive reaction reflects the changing backdrop in Hollywood movies. It also shows that the Korean film market has grown larger than what is apparent in Korea. Whether this is just a marketing strategy to draw a larger audience or an essential strategy to spin more diverse stories, one thing that holds true is that the Korean film market and Korea itself are under the Hollywood’s radar.
Another factor is that Korea is particularly fond of Hollywood’s super hero flicks, such as “The Avengers” and “Spider-Man”. It is rare to find a super hero movie that has failed in the market. This is because Koreans love epic stories of heroes. Considering how well these movies do in Korea, it is not surprising then that Hollywood’s hero movies are fond of Korea as well. It would not be groundless to say that Hollywood’s super heroes will be coming to Korea to earn its favor.
