YG’s new rookie group WINNER conquered all nine music charts upon debut. The group’s title track “Empty” of the debut album “2014 S/S” was released on August 12 at 0 hour and seven hours later, it had topped all nine major music charts of Korea: Melon, Mnet, Genie, Olleh Music, Sori Bada, Monkey 3, Bugs Music, Daum Music, and Naver Music. In fact, all tracks of the album lined up on the charts, including the double title track “Color Ring,” “Don’t Flirt,” “Different,” “Confession,” “I’m Him,” “But,” and “Tonight.”
It is very rare to see a rookie group top all nine music charts and have the entire album enter the charts upon debut. Both feats were possible for WINNER because the public was already closely following the group’s progress as they prepared extensively for their debut. The members all participated in the writing of the ten songs of the album.
“Empty” is a hip hop number that expresses the emptiness of post-breakup. Song Min-ho contributed to the lyrics of the song. Kang Seung-yun, Song Min-ho, and Lee Seung-hoon co-wrote “Color Ring” while the leader Kang Seung-yun acted as the main producer.
WINNER will stand on their debut stage at the YG family concert on the 15th.
