□ The Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange will host a Korean film festival in six cities in the Philippines—Davao, Cebu, Iloilo, Kabite, Olongapo, Pampanga—for three days from Wednesday, November 6 to November 8.

□ Seven Korean films highlighting Korean cinematic history will be screened at the film festival, which is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and hosted by KOFICE and the Korean Culture Center in the Philippines. A cinema forum section themed “Study on sharing and developing film production between Korea and the Philippines” will also be held.

□ The opening film will be Microhabitat. It is directed by Jeon Go-woon, who won the best new director award at several film festivals including the 55th Grand Bell Awards. Jeon will meet with the local audience to talk about the movie. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Korean cinema, Korean films of various genres such as House of Hummingbird, The House of Us, Parasite, Little Forest, Miss Granny, and Architecture 101 will be screened.

□ At the cinema forum section, Cha Seung-jae, chairman of Asian Film Market at the Busan International Film Festival; programmer Maeng Soo-jin; director Jeon Go-woon; and officials of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines Film Institute will gather to discuss film industry in the two countries and ways to cooperate for mutual growth.

□ KOFICE president Kim Yong-rak notes, “The Korean film festival in the Philippines, which has been successfully held since 2007, is expected to help the two countries come to a mutual understanding of cultural diversity and lead to more active cultural exchanges, as this year marks the year of mutual exchanges between the two countries.”
