Title Chinese College Student Reporters Explore Korean Culture
No 176 Inquiry 588 Date 2019/09/02

□ Chinese college newspaper reporters learned about Korean culture through a program sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by KOFICE from August 19 to 27 in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Ten people, including eight student reporters from eight universities in the Beijing area and two professors, took part in the program.

□ Over eight nights and nine days, the student reporters experienced a wide range of Korean culture from traditional culture to daily life and Hallyu. They visited Hallyu content companies to learn more about the Hallyu industry, experienced wearing Korean traditional clothing called hanbok, and tried taekwondo and Korean cuisine. They also deepened their understanding of Korean domestic culture through homestays and of Korean culture in general by interviewing various Koreans on college campuses across Seoul and at Seoul Plaza in front of the city hall.

□ The program was about participation, rather than simply visiting famous sites, to help the student reporters produce more vivid articles about Korean culture. They plan to write about their experiences for their college newspapers to share with local students.

□ Prior to the program, KOFICE president Kim Yong-rak notes, “I hope these college newspaper reporters, who will lead the future of China, will deepen their understanding of Korean culture and meet warm-hearted Koreans during their visit. I hope the program helps promote friendly relations between China and Korea.”

□ Professor Wu Chong of Renmin University of China, who led the student press corps, notes, “We were able to better understand Korean culture through our visit, and we thank many people who have welcomed us. We will make efforts to help Korea and China cooperate to contribute towards the good of not just the two countries, but also the world.”
