No 174 Inquiry 568 Date 2019/08/02

□ The Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE, president Kim Yong-rak) and POSCO E&C (CEO Lee Young-hoon) will carry out social contribution project Global Harmony from Saturday, August 3 to Monday, August 12 in Batangas, Philippines.

□ This project will consist of a cultural arts class, a Creative Room for cultural experiences, and a festival for mutual cultural exchanges between Korea and the Philippines. Over the course of four days from Monday, August 5, to Thursday, August 8, education programs introducing aspects of Korean culture such as K-pop dance choreography, choir, drum dance, and taekwonmu will be offered to some 300 students attending Simlong Elementary School in Batangas, Philippines.

□ On Friday the 9th, there will be an opening ceremony for the newly remodeled Creative Room, a space for multi-cultural experiences in Simlong Elementary School. Prepared by KOFICE and POSCO E&C since early July to promote creative thinking, the Creative Room is a space where various cultural resources such as books, games, and audiovisual materials can be utilized.

□ Also provided to the school and its students are a wide range of cultural and artistic content, such as books, K-pop music, films, and dramas, as well as devices such as drones that will give students a chance to experience Korea’s latest science and technology offerings.

□ On Saturday the 10th, the Global Harmony Festival will be held for mutual cultural exchanges between Korea and the Philippines, gathering more than 1,000 members of the Batangas community. Beginning with K-pop vocal and dance performances by a volunteer group of Korean and Filipino college students, the festival will feature Philippine traditional performances and a professional cover dance team, grabbing the attention of local citizens.

□ KOFICE president Kim Yong-rak commented, “This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the Philippines, and so this goodwill Hallyu project is all the more meaningful since it is being held in the Philippines. KOFICE, in cooperation with private companies, will continue the virtuous cycle of spreading the positive influence of Hallyu to promote mutual growth with local communities and create common values.”

□ Kim Hak-yong, head of the management support headquarters of POSCO E&C, says, “It’s only been four years since POSCO set out to the Philippines, and the country has already settled as one of our core strategies. Beyond business partnerships, we will work to continue to grow together through a mutually benefiting relationship.”

□ Beginning with Indonesia in 2012, KOFICE has been carrying out the Good Hallyu project in correlation with CSR initiatives of private companies to make contributions overseas through Hallyu.
