Title Latin America Hallyu Story Summarizes the Status of Hallyu in Five Latin American Countries
No 160 Inquiry 829 Date 2019/04/03

□ The Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE, president Kim Yong-rak) published Latin America Hallyu Story, summarizing the status of Hallyu and cultural industry trends in five Latin American countries—Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru.

□ This book was produced as part of the Hallyu Resource Book project to provide information necessary to discover new export markets for Korean cultural content. As a sequel to Post-Hallyu, Beyond Asia published in 2017 that assessed nine North American and European countries and South East Asia Hallyu Story published in 2018 that studied eight South East Asian countries, this book focuses on Latin America.

□ Latin America Hallyu Story outlines the scale of the cultural industries of five Latin American countries, introduces major cultural policies, and provides a multidimensional view of the evolution of Hallyu in each country from its nascence to its current state. Based on first-hand research and coverage by a KOFICE correspondent, the book provides credible and vivid depictions of the scenes. Recent Hallyu trends including consumption patterns, popular Korean celebrities, and news on major enterprises and events are broken down in detail by content category. The book also introduces Hallyu communities—key consumers and propagators of Hallyu—as it supports its findings by providing interviews with community leaders and Latin American experts.

□ Latin America Hallyu Story can be downloaded from the KOFICE website (www.kofice.or.kr) and is also available for purchase at the government publication section of the Kyobo Book Centre.
