The 2010 Pattaya International Music Festival, the largest pop music festival in Southeast Asia, started grandly at Thailand’s most-boasted Pattaya Beach. More than 7,000 people came to enjoy the festivities which included popular singers from Thailand and 6 other Asian countries. The singers who received the largest spotlight on stage were Korean singers ‘After School’, ‘Wheesung’ and ‘f(x)’.
The Pattaya International Music Festival is a large-scale music festival that attracts 200 million people every year. It met for the 8th time this year and grew into the largest music festival in Thailand. The festival was hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and organized by the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE), Thailand’s GMM Grammy and Pattaya City. KOFICE provides an opportunity for talented Korean singers to participate in the music festival every year. As a result, many singers including ‘SuperJunior’, ‘Paran’, ‘Girls’ Generation’ and ‘Shinee’ became major Hallyu stars in Thailand.
The festival will continue to introduce diverse aspects of Korean popular music and expand cultural exchanges with Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. This year’s festival will be broadcast across the country through Thai’s largest satellite TV True and music TV channel Bang Channel. It is expected to confirm the status of Korea’s cultural industry in Thailand while contributing to the enhancement of the national image of Korea.
