The 62nd Sapporo Snow Festival K-POP Festival, co-hosted by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE), Sapporo Tourist Association and NPO Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Association and sponsored by Korea Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization, took place on Friday, February 11 at Nitori Culture Hall.
K-POP Festival is an official cultural event of Sapporo Snow Festival, one of the 3 largest festivals in the world that attracts over 2 million people every year. K-POP Festival took place for the second time this year. The Sapporo Snow Festival took place from February 7 to 13 (one week) and the K-POP Festival took place on the February 11 (Friday, public holiday) when the Festival was expected to attract the largest number of visitors. K-pop artists who made the festival shine were world star and singer and actor Rain, Seong Si-kyung, Orange Caramel and Teen TOP.
In contribution to UN Millennium Development Goals, all proceeds of this year’s K-POP Festival were donated to support the education of children in impoverished regions of Asia. The donation ceremony took place in the middle of the Festival. K-POP Festival will contribute largely not only to the expansion of K-pop but also to the promotion of the national image and the reciprocal cultural exchange with Japan.
KOFICE expects the official K-POP Festival of Sapporo Snow Festival to act as a Japanese-Korean cultural festival that promotes the cultural industries and music contents of Korea to visitors from around the world. The K-POP Festival will be covered by major media in Japan, including KBS Japan, HTB (Hokkaido Television Broadcasting), TVH (Television Hokkaido) and M-net Japan.
