□ The Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE, President Kim Yongrak) and
the CJ Group will jointly hold “Good Hallyu” events in Kunming, China, on May 29–June 1.
Kunming is one of the friendliest Chinese cities towards Korea and it has signed friendship
agreements with Goyang and Pohang in Korea. The city has maintained friendship and exchange with
Korea, sponsoring the Korea-China Friendship Week in 2008 and Han Style Exhibition in 2017.
□ In celebration of China’s International Children’s Day that falls on June 1, the educational facilities
of Yongchang Primary School and Guansuo Central Primary School in Kunming, Yunnan, will be
improved and the “CJ Dream Building Classroom” will be opened. KOFICE will donate multimedia
equipment and Korean animation and educational materials to the two schools to enhance the
teaching-learning atmosphere and help the children of culturally underprivileged families experience
broader cultural contents directly.
□ Krystal, a member of f(x), a girl group of SM Entertainment, will join the Dream Building Music
Class to deliver a message of dream and hope through K-pop. Krystal and f(x) have grown out of Asia
to enjoy worldwide popularity, presenting unique music numbers wherever they go. Krystal is a
Hallyu artist who has also been recognized for her acting role in the TV drama Prison Playbook and
for being the cover model for the April issue of the Chinese fashion magazine Yoho!Girl. Thanks to
her, such Chinese media as Tencent and iQiyi are showing keen interest in the “Good Hallyu” events.
□ K-pop singing and dance classes will be given to students of the two schools on May 29–30, and the
children will enjoy drawing with artists and building dream trees on May 31 as part of the “Good
Hallyu” projects aimed at social contribution. On the final day, June 1, children’s K--op performances
and Chinese cultural and arts performances will take place at CGV’s Chenggong branch in Kunming,
and a multimedia-equipped classroom will be opened. The CGV will set up sister-school relations
with the two schools, host an exhibition of the children’s artworks and crafts, and invite them to
movies and sponsor other programs for them.
□ KOFICE President Kim Yongrak said, “The ‘Good Hallyu’ projects are a successful and sustainable
model of private-governmental cooperation that combines the government’s policy support for
bilateral, mutually beneficial cultural exchange and a private corporation’s activities aimed at social
contribution. The latest projects are hoped to expedite exchange and dialogue between Korea and
China, whose relationship has begun to recover.
□ To promote private-level international cultural exchange, KOFICE has implemented “Good Hallyu”
projects in cooperation with CJ E&M, the CJ Group, the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and
Development, and the China-Republic of Korea Friendship Association. “Good Hallyu” is not a onetime
event. By maintaining continuity, the projects are earning positive recognition from local
governments where the events took place, becoming a representative model of cooperation between
the private and public sectors.
