Interview with Choi Min-sik, Hwang Jeong-min, Lee Jeong-jae of “New World”

Jung-jae : I play an undercover cop who’s part of a gang.

My character is conflicted between duty and loyalty.

I’m Lee Jung-jae, and I play Lee Ja-sung.

Min-shik : I play a brutal detective whose sole purpose is to bring grief.

I’m Choi Min-shik, and I play Kang Gwa-jang.

Jung-min : I rank 2nd in the gang.

I’m from Yeosu as well as China. Strange, right?

I’m Hwang Jung-min, and I play Jung Chung.

Min-shik : It’s a feast of men.

It’s depressing to be surrounded by just men.

And this movie is full of men.

It gives the viewers a clear representation of masculinity and power,

and delves deep into the cruel and delicate world of men’s honor and emotions from beginning to end.

Each of us have carried a movie role on our own before, but now that

the three of us are in this together, we’ve come to depend on each other which is very comforting.

Jung-min : That’s true.

Min-shik : He’s meticulous.

Jung-jae : Selfish.

Jung-min : He’s intelligent.

Director : I was very picky about casting.

Min-shik : There are lots.

Jung-min : Girls Generation…

Min-shik : They’re not someone you can just bring up.

They are protected by the entire nation.

Jung-min : Actress?

Jung-jae : He wants to work with Girls Generation.

Min-shik : You guys can shoot a melodrama with Go Doo-shim I’ll work with Girls Generation.

There’s a memorable scene Jung-min did.

I was jealous he got to do it.

At the end, it starts to pour at the scene of this uproar.

As raindrops drip from the eaves,

Jung-min washes his face and hands with that water, without saying a word.

That moment was a perfect portrayal of Jung Chung’s charisma.

Jung-min : I had completely forgotten about that scene.

Did I really wash my face?

Jung-jae : I didn’t want to lose

my chance of working with two great actors.

Min-shik actually called me and asked me to do this film with him.

That’s never happened to me before.

Min-shik : I’m thankful.

It’s not like I’m the director or producer of this movie,

but despite that, he didn’t hesitate and agreed to work with u

If he ever needs me for a film he does in the future,

I can promise him that I’ll pay him back in full.

Jung-jae : I’ll have to produce a movie now.

Min-shik : There’s really no reason

why you have to go see this movie.

We’ve been hearing that

a lot of good movies will be released in March.

Having a variety of great movies to choose from is definitely a happy contemplation all viewers go through.

“The New World” is just as tasty,

so we hope you’ll consider trying it out along with other movies.

Jung-min : There’s something different about it.

It’s got a rough aspect like any other gang movie,

but it’s also very refined.

Come see the three of us  duke it out on the big screen.

Jung-jae : Yes, “The New World” will premiere on February 21.

I hope you’ll all come see it in theaters.

Jung-min : Mark your calendars for February 21!
