A pilgrim for moviegoers—more than 1.2 million movie fans visited the theaters in just one day. According to movie admission statistics tallied by the Korean Film Council on August 2, the top 10 movies of the box office brought in 1,222,727 people on August 1. Of course, more than 600,000 of them were headed to watch this summer’s hottest release, “Snowpiercer.”

Bong Jun-ho’s “Snowpiercer” was shown 4,762 times on 934 screens across Korea on the second day of its release, bringing in 600,998 moviegoers, a record-high number of people, in one day. So far, 1,037,356 people have watched the movie in theaters. Before “Snowpiercer,” the 2012 movie “The Thieves” held the record for most admissions in one day with 550,000 admissions. Released on the same day as “Snowpiercer” is Ha Jeong-woo’s “The Terror Live,” which had 298,061 people watching the movie at 690 screens. So far, 641,113 people have watched the movie.
At third place in the box office ranking is the animation “Turbo” with 120,172 admissions. This is followed by “The Smurfs 2” with 92,059 admissions; “RED 2” with 52,164 admissions; “Cold Eyes” with 19,592 admissions; “The Wolverine” with 18,708 admissions; “Mr. Go” with 12,957 admissions; “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum.” with 4,734 admissions; and “Super Hero” with 3,282 admissions.

On the last day of July, the top ten movies recorded about 900,000 admissions; and on the 30th and the 29th, there were a total of 500,000 admissions on each day. With the summer holidays falling on the first weekend of August, the theaters are looking forward to an even busier week.
