“Fist of Legend” Defeats “Oblivion” and Strikes “Iron Man 3”

“Fist of Legend,” directed by Kang Woo-seok, defeated Hollywood Sci-Fi blockbuster “Oblivion” and topped weekend rankings in its second week of release.

According to statistics gathered by the Korea Film Council, “Fist of Legend” drew in 51,453 moviegoers on April 18 and topped the daily box office chart. It recorded 908, 709 admissions in total. Next in the ranking was “Oblivion” with 47,764 moviegoers on the same day and a total of 837,443 tickets sold.
What makes the rivalry of “Fist of Legend” and “Oblivion” interesting is that the two movies were released in the same week.

“Fist of Legend” is a story about four legendary fighters in the past who meet again on a mixed martial arts program called “Fist of Legend.” The movie is directed by Kang Woo-seok and stars Hwang Jeong-min, Yoo Jun-sang, Yun Jae-mun, and Jeong Woong-in.
The movie was released on April 10 and instantly topped the box office chart, only to be overtaken by “Oblivion” when it was released on the following day. “Fist of Legend” had to remain in second place on the weekend box office chart, but it jumped to number one in the second week.

“Fist of Legend” is set to take on Hollywood movies. It may have defeated “Oblivion,” but it has another tough opponent to face. On April 25, Hollywood’s most ambitious project of the first half of this year will come to theaters—“Iron Man 3.” Already the blockbuster has grabbed 28.4% of ticket reservations (Korea Film Council statistics) as of 8:00 a.m. on April 19, and looks ready to top the charts.
