“The Admiral: Roaring Currents” Documentary: Korea’s First Documentary Prequel

Director Kim Han-min of the movie “Roaring Currents: The Road of the Admiral” (directors Jung Se-gyo, Kim Han-min, production Big Stone Pictures, distribution NEW) will embark on a new challenge. A project directed by and starring Kim Han-min, “Roaring Currents: The Road of the Admiral” is a documentary prequel, a first in the history of Korean cinema. The film is an ambitious project that retraces the 1,234-kilometer path that Admiral Yi walked in preparation of the Battle of Myeongnyang and the actions he took leading up the battle. The documentary will also delve into misunderstandings and questions that arose about the battle after the movie “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” was released. Already there is a growing curiosity about this new form of documentary film.

Although some of the scenes follow the regular documentary format, the film will present a 90-minute movie-like entertainment by capturing the dramatic happenings that occur on the road. Another significant part of this project is that it will be a documentary prequel that has never been attempted before. It will deal with the historical facts and the behind stories of the Battle of Myeongnyang which was the subject of the movie “The Admiral: Roaring Currents.”

Waiting to meet the audiences, “Roaring Currents: The Road of the Admiral” will signify a new undertaking in the Korean cinema. Known as a hit-creator for movies such as “Paradise Lost,” “War of the Arrows,” and “The Admiral: Roaring Currents,” director Kim Han-min’s “Roaring Currents: The Road of the Admiral” will come to theaters on the 30th.
