“Interstellar” is enjoying the biggest box office success in Korea after North America. According to the US Box Office Mojo on the 9th (local time), Korea was the biggest market for “Interstellar.” Mojo reported on its official homepage that “Interstellar” brought in USD 14.1 million (estimate) in Korea.
Korea was followed by the UK with USD 8.4 million, Russia with USD 8.1 million, France with USD 5 million, Germany with USD 4.4 million, Italy with USD 3.6 million, Mexico with USD 3.2 million, and Brazil with USD 1.9 million. Although the movie has not yet been released in two major markets, China and Japan, the figures are an indication of the “Interstellar” boom in Korea.
“Interstellar” is already rushing toward 2 million admissions in the first week of its release. According to the Korea Film Council’s statistics on the 10th, “Interstellar” (director Christopher Nolan) drew 1,332,415 moviegoers over the weekend of November 8 and 9 and reached a total of 1,905,394 admissions, ranking first in box office charts. The movie surpassed 1.9 million admissions in four days of its release and will easily jump over the 2 million mark on the 10th.
