“Roaring Currents” to be shown for Free: More than 200 Screenings

Film distributor CJ E&M will screen “Roaring Currents” free of charge for those who cannot afford to go to the movies. On September 2, the film’s distributor explained that it will start nationwide free screenings for soldiers, policemen, single elders, and children from study rooms from September 16 when the movie will go down in many of the theaters. “It was none other than the people’s love for their country that helped ‘Roaring Currents’ draw in more than 17 million people to the theater and leave a lasting mark in the Korean cinema,” said CJ E&M staff member. “We wanted to return even a little of the love ‘Roaring Currents’ received to the society, which is why we planned this free screening event.” CJ E&M will begin showing “Roaring Currents” to selected groups of people. Firstly on the 16th, some 1,500 elders living alone across the nation will be invited to watch the movie at a nearby CGV theater. On the same day, CGV Yeouido will invite 300 students from study rooms sponsored by the CJ Donors Camp. CJ E&M also plans to confer with relevant organizations and show the movie to soldiers and conscripted policemen.
The movie “Roaring Currents” is based on the historic Battle of Myeongryang during the Japanese Invasion of Korea. Released on July 30, the movie sparked Yi Sun-shin syndrome across Korea and surpassed “Avatar” on its 18th day in the box office. It re-wrote the history of the Korean cinema, becoming the first Korean movie to record more than 17 million admissions.
