“Avengers 2” Announces Filming in Korea

Hollywood film studio Marvel Studios has announced that it will film “Avengers 2” in Seoul. On the 18th (local time), Marvel announced on its homepage that “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (“Avengers 2” hereafter) will be filmed in Korea. The studio hopes that this will contribute to the Korean film industry.

Marvel will shoot an important scene of the movie in Seoul. “Korea has state-of-the-art technology, beautiful urban landscape and buildings, so it’s the perfect place to shoot ‘Avengers 2,’” Marvel Studio explained. “There are many ‘Iron Man’ fans in Korea. ‘Avengers 2’ will be shot in Korea as well as London, Johannesburg, and Aosta Valley in Italy.”

“Avengers 2” is the sequel to “Avengers,” which drew in USD 1.5 billion worldwide in 2012. In the movie, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and the rest of Mavel comics’ superheroes fight together against one enemy. Ever since Marvel decided to film “Avengers 2” in Seoul and Incheon last year, a project team has been making preparations in secret. A team already completed test filming and rehearsals in Korea in mid-January, after which the studio decided to film only in Seoul. According to the staff, filming for “Avengers 2” in Seoul will start in May. “Captain America” Chris Evans and “Black Widow” Scarlet Johansson will be coming.

The plan for filming “Avengers 2” in Korea started at the end of last year with the support of the Korean Film Council and film organizations. Although the Korean Film Council has not made any official announcement, it is said to be cooperating fully with Marvel Studio for its filming in Seoul. “Avengers 2” began shooting in Cape Town, South Africa, early this month and will be released in May 2015.
