Seol Gyeong-gu vs Song Gang-ho, a Duel in 17 Years

Seol Gyeong-gu and Song Gang-ho, two actors whose names are listed in the 10 Million dmission club. For the first time in 17 years, they will have a showdown at the theater. With the Chuseok holiday coming up, the two actors will reveal their new movies—Seol Gyeong-gu’s “The Spy” (director Lee Seung-jun) and Song Gang-ho’s “The Face Reader” (director Han Jae-rim).
The spotlight has already fallen upon these two acclaimed actors. It is not the first time that the two actors are coming to the cinema in the same year. However, their movies have never been released at the same time. In summer this year, Seol Gyeong-gu’s “Cold Eyes” and Song Gang-ho’s “Snowpiercer” were released a month apart. But “The Spy” and “The Face Reader” will be released only a week apart from each other. The cinema is in for a big match.
First up is Seol Gyeong-gu. “The Spy” was released on September 5, and drew in one million spectators in four days. “The Spy” is a comic action movie about Korea’s top spy whose mission goes awry when his wife, who is oblivious to his real identity, becomes involved. Seol Gyeong-gu stars as the spy.
Song Gang-ho will step up with “The Face Reader” on September 11. “The Face Reader” tells the story of a genius physiognomist who can foresee the future in people’s faces. Song Gang-ho stars as the genius Nae-gyeong who tries to change the fate of Joseon.
“The Spy” is Seol Gyeong-gu’s second comedy since “Jail Breakers” in 2002 and “The Face Reader” is Song Gang-ho’s first ever historical film. The new movies have special meanings for both actors.
Moreover, the two actors’ movies that were released earlier this year have fared well. Not surprisingly, expectations for the new releases are just as high. Seol Gyeong-gu drew in 10 million people to his movies “The Tower” and “Cold Eyes,” and Song Gang-ho’s “Snowpiercer” was watched by nine million moviegoers. Seol Gyeong-gu and Song Gang-ho both started their acting careers in theater arts and debuted in the film industry in 1996.
