The movie “200 Pounds of Beauty” will see a Chinese remake. Numerous sources have stated that the Chinese remake of the 2006 Korean hit “200 Pounds of Beauty” is underway and filming will start immediately once the cast has been finalized.
“200 Pounds of Beauty” (director Kim Yong-hwa, 6.61 million admissions) released in 2006 tells the story of a fat, ugly heroine who undergoes full cosmetic surgery and becomes the nation’s top sexy diva. Kim Ah-joong was so convincing in her role as a woman who had never been loved before that she earned the title of the “Queen of Romantic Comedies.” She personally sang the movie’s title track, which is still loved by many today. It marked the beginning of a movie OST boom.
The movie was later released in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore and just as well-received by the audiences. It was also adapted into a musical that initiated a “musical Hallyu boom” in Japan and China.
“200 Pounds of Beauty” has already shown that it is a strong content in Korea and abroad. The Chinese remake is hoping to see the same kind of success.
