The official poster of Park Chan-wook’s Hollywood debut “Stoker” was released on January 18 by film distributor CJ E&M. Unlike the teaser poster, the official poster captures the main characters of the movie.
“Stoker” is a thriller that follows the story of India (Mia Waskikowska) who loses her father on her 18th birthday and is suddenly visited by an uncle she has never heard of before. It is the Hollywood debut film of Park Chan-wook, who was celebrated for his “Oldboy” and “Thirst.”
On the main poster is the phrase “18th birthday, Dad died and Uncle came,” which summarizes the main plot of the movie. Next to India are her mother, played by Nicole Kidman, and her mysterious uncle, played by Mathew Goode. A queer tension shrouds the family.
The poster was created by a famous American documentary photographer, Mary Ellen Mark. She managed to capture the suspense of the thriller in the poster with such details as Mia Waskikowska’s key necklace and Nicole Kidman’s subtle smile.
Scheduled for release in North America on March 1, “Stoker” will be in theaters in Korea a day ahead, on February 28.
