“Accomplices” grabbed the top seat of the box office chart. According to Korean Film Commission’s box office statistics, “Accomplices” drew in 77,622 more admissions to make a total of 846,763 admissions to date. It is ranked at the top of the box office chart. “Accomplices,” starring thriller-queen Son Ye-jin and “manual of acting” Kim Gap-soo, keeps the suspense going for the entire running time as the story progresses from one unexpected twist to another. Moreover, the movie ends on a heavy, lingering note that reverberates for a long time after the credits roll up.
Second place goes to “Gravity” (by Director Alfonso Cuarón), which brought in 67,012 more admissions for a total of 1,805,821 admissions. “Gravity” is the work of Alfonso Cuarón, accredited with “Great Expectations” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Cuarón worked on the movie for five years to make it seem as if he had really shot it in space in a zero-gravity environment. The audience is thrilled that “Gravity” deviates from typical SF movies and rather than illustrating a fantasy world, it realistically depicts the most dangerous, isolated environment that humans can think of.
Following “Gravity” is “Hwayi: A Monster Boy” (by Director Jang Joon-hwan, produced by Now Film, Pine House Film). It drew in 25,702 moviegoers to record a total of 2,277,565 admissions. “Hope,” with 14,873 additional admissions and a total of 2,557,183 admissions to date, was also ranked at the top end of the chart.
“Captain Phillips” (by Director Paul Greengrass) is at number five with 165,929 admissions in total. “Top Star” (by Director Park Jung-hoon) comes next with 125,282 admissions while “Rough Play” (by Director Shin Yeon-sik) drew in 10,834 admissions.
