The 18th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) began its reservations on September 26. 9AM. The reservations for opening and closing films opened on September 24, and both films were sold out in four minutes. According to BIFF Committee, the opening film "Vara: A Blessing" by Bhutanese priest and director Kyentse Norbu was sold out in 43 seconds. The closing film, "The Dinner," was sold out in 3 minutes 55 seconds.
"Vara: A Blessing" is a visually stunning movie that uses the medium of Indian traditional dance Bharatanatyam to illustrate a woman's love and sacrifice and strength in adversity. The screenplay is adapted from celebrated Indian author Sunil Gangopadhya's short story "Blood and Tears." The movie, above all, gives a creative interpretation of dance.
The closing film of the festival, "The Dinner," is the recipient of the 2011 BIFF Asian Cinema Fund. It is also the first independent film to be selected for the finale of BIFF. It illustrates the harsh reality of one family in a candid way, but leaves the audience with a lingering heartache.
The regular reservations can be made through BIFF's special website (biff.movie.daum.net) and all Busan Bank branches and ATMs and phone banking starting from 9AM, September 26.
