“The Producers” and “Three Meals a Day” are in for a showdown. Ambitious projects launched by their respective TV channels, “The Producers” and “Three Meals a Day” will air on the coming 15th. Viewers are eagerly waiting to see which of the two will be the winner.
Director Na Young-suk attended the press conference for tvN’s reality entertainment show “Three Meals a Day: Jeongseon Village” on the 13th and talked about KBS 2TV’s entertainment drama “The Producers.”
“I’m intimidated. First of all, they are flashy. The cast, the writer, and the director are like the ‘Avengers’ team. ‘Avengers’ did well in Korea, but the sequel did even better. I think this case will be the same too. I’m a little scared,” he said. “I know them. I can’t say that I wish them success, nor can I wish them failure.”
Director Na joined KBS in 2001 and created a nationwide sensation with the entertainment show “1 Night and 2 Days.” In 2013, he finally accepted CJ E&M’s lengthy scouting efforts, and created the hit series “Over Flowers” and “Three Meals a Day,” which are threatening the terrestrial broadcast channels.
Director Na’s “Grandpas Over Flowers in Greece” was received well from the very first episode, which recorded 10% viewers’ rating. “Three Meals a Day: Fishing Village” wrote a new record for tvN with its viewers’ rating in the 13% range (Nielsen Korea cable TV standards). The upcoming series “Three Meals a Day: Jeongseon Village” will star original members Lee Seo-jin and Ok Taec-yeon plus a new member, Kim Gwang-gyu. The first episode airs at 9:45 p.m. on the 15th.
It is not surprising that “The Producers” are wary of “Three Meals a Day.” Set in the entertainment division of a broadcast station, “The Producers” will make a humorous reference to director Na Young-suk who left KBS to join another channel. The drama will give a life-like sketch of the people involved in the broadcast industry.
Actor Cha Tae-hyun appears in the drama as the director of “1 Night and 2 Days.”
“I haven’t met director Na Young-suk, so I don’t know him well. I feel bad when I’m acting because his name keeps coming up. I would like to apologize.” Regarding the two programs’ rivalry, he said, “I’m not his match. I’m a fake director and Na Young-suk is a real director. I really want to apologize. I hope there are no misunderstandings when I refer to the program as a failure in the drama.”
KBS entertainment unit is hoping to change things with “The Producers.” Written by Park Ji-eun who wrote the SBS drama “My Love from the Star” and directed by Pyo Min-soo and Seo Soo-min of the entertainment department, “The Producers” has a star cast of Kim Soo-hyun in the role of a rookie director, Cha Tae-hyun and Gong Hyo-jin as entertainment show directors, and IU as a top star.
