MBC music program “Show! Music Core” will revert to its ranking system after seven years and would start real-time text voting. MBC announced that “Show! Music Core” will start the ranking system on April 6. It will be the first time since the system was scrapped in 2006.
“Show! Music Core” plans to reflect the trends of the K-pop industry where watching music videos have become just as important as listening to music. The show will select nominees every week by summing up each team’s music video views and points for song and album sales as well as TV appearances. The final selection of the winner will be determined by text votes during the show.
“Viewers can vote for more than one group. That way, votes will not get concentrated on one team. We are going to assure transparency and fairness of the system,” said the production team.
The production team expects the viewers’ voting to have a large influence on determining the winner. This will add excitement to the show because no one will know the results until the very end.
“The ranking system will add vigor to the somewhat stagnant and standardized music scene,” the production team explained. “We are going to raise the quality of the program along with the new system.”
