KBS 2TV “Good Doctor” received the Banff Rockie Award at one of the three biggest international media awards, the Banff World Media Festival in Canada. KBS stated on June 10 that “Good Doctor” won the Banff Rockie Award at the 35th Banff World Media Festival hosted at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel on the 8th in Canada.
The Banff Rockie Awards is one of the three major international media awards in the world along with the Emmy and the Prix Italia. Three Asian programs had the honor of receiving awards this year—KBS “Good Doctor” and “Colors 4 Desires” and Taiwan’s “A Rolling Stone.” Most of the awards went to North American and Europeans programs.
“Good Doctor” is a drama series that aired in August last year. It tells the story of an autistic child (Joo Won) who overcomes prejudice and adversaries to achieve his dream of becoming a pediatrician. The interactions of a doctor who suffers from both autism and savant syndrome with young patients managed to direct the public’s attention to the socially neglected people. Highly popular when it aired in Korea, “Good Doctor” took the Best Drama title at the Korean Producers & Directors Awards and the Baeksang Art Awards.
“Good Doctor” was the only Asian series competing for the award alongside “House of Card” (USA, Channel N), “Hostages” (USA, CBS), “Orphan Black” (USA, BBC America), “Downton Abbey” (UK, ITV), and “The Bible” (USA, History Channel).
