The Monday and Tuesday evening dramas are doing poorly in the viewership race. The much anticipated “Doctor Stranger” and “Triangle” all performed below their expectations. According to Nielsen Korea, SBS “Doctor Stranger” recorded 11.6% viewers’ rating on July 1 and outran its rivals. MBC “Triangle” followed next with 7.4% and KBS 2TV “Lovers of Music” with 6.1%. When “Lovers of Music” first aired on June 23, it recorded 5.8% viewers’ rating and 5.4% on the following day. It had the lowest rating among the three dramas, but sparked hope with the episode that aired on the 30th. It was the only Monday and Tuesday evening drama that saw an increase in viewership.
The viewers’ rating for “Doctor Stranger” fell by 0.2% from 11.8% on the 30th. “Triangle” fared worse, falling by 1.2% to 7.4%. In contrast, “Lovers of Music” saw an increase by 0.7%. Although it recorded the lowest viewers’ rating, it was the only drama that saw an increase in viewership. “Lovers of Music” is a romantic comedy series about Choi Chun-hee (Jeong Eun-ji) who becomes a trot singer with the help of the gifted composer Jang Jun-hyun (Jee Hyun-woo). The plot and the humor or the love code of the drama may be predictable, but the viewers are turning their attention to this romantic comedy. Why is that?
Unlike other romantic comedies, “Lovers of Music” has convincing and three-dimensional characters that are making the viewers laugh. Jeong Eun-ji and Ji Hyun-woo’s comical acting is spreading by word of mouth. Adding to the amusement is Shin Seong-rok’s expressionless humor. Viewers are waiting to see if “Lovers of Music” will be able to outrun its rivals and spark up the Monday and Tuesday evening drama race.
