Sistar’s “Shake It” to Shake Up Summer

Sistar is making a comeback with a new mini album titled “Shake It” on June 22. Since August last year, each member has been busy in individual projects, and it’s been 10 months since all four members stood on the same stage. The album’s title track “Shake It” is a distinctively Sistar-style summer song by the hit producers Dublekick. A retro dance number with a powerful brass sound and a groovy rhythm, “Shake It” has an addictive hook and a powerful vocal line. A perfect tune for summer, “Shake It” is likely to become Sistar’s signature dance number following “Loving U” and “Touch My Body.”

Their new album’s selling point is that it maintains Sistar’s distinctive color while delivering diverse stories. Upbeat melody, humorous and sexy music video, and easy-to-follow choreography that shines in a group formation are the eye-catching points. Supported by fans of all ages and gender, Sistar is set to dominate the K-pop scene with their signature music.

The music video also adds to the fun with its comic-fantasy concept. In the video, Sistar members appear as “lovable femme fatales” and spread “dance DNA” to everyone they meet. This “girl crush” fantasy story that only Sistar could pull off was created by director Joo Hee-sun and features Kang Gyun-sung of Noel, chef Choi Hyun-suk, and Monsta X’s Shownu and Wonho as cameos. The humor chord blends well with the upbeat music and choreography to give an all-around entertaining video.

The album is an easy listener for all. At the same time, Sistar tries something deeper with their typical bright energy in the song “Don’t Act Like a Child” featuring the hottest rapper these days, Giriboy. Co-produced by singer-songwriter The Name and composer STEREO14, “Bad Boy” featuring Mad Clown conveys a girl’s heartache over a bad boy. It catches the ear with its modern piano loop, simple drum sounds, and a dreamy reverse pattern. Aside from the perfect party tune “Shake It,” the lengthy album rolls smoothly from one song to the next. The album has a familiar composition and is balanced by the works of Iconic Sounds, The Name, Robin, and other seasoned producers who brought out the distinctive colors of Sistar’s music.
