YG successfully debuts AKMU after Lee Hi

Akdong Musician (AKMU), who is under YG Entertainment, hit consecutive homeruns following Lee Hi. AKMU and Lee Hi joined YG after participating in the SBS broadcasting program “Good Sunday — Survival Audition K-Pop”. Lee Hi was the semifinalist in season one and AKMU were the winners in season two. Both thus joined the YG family after their victory. Their debut albums made a hit to the point that they are expected to continue successfully developing their career as singers. Lee Hi, who debuted first, was a singer that stood out the most among “K-Pop Star” singers and AKMU’s music has been highly evaluated following Lee Hi, making them succeed at becoming hit pop stars. Lee Hi participated in season one of “K-Pop Star” in 2012, where she met with Yang Hyun-suk, the CEO of YG. Although she was young back then, her unique, thick attractive vocal apt for soul music was highly praised by the broadcasting program’s judges.

After singing in the semifinals of “K-Pop Star,” Lee Hi officially debuted through YG and recorded all kill charts with every song she released. Her debut songs ranked “first, second, third, and fourth” for an all kill sound source chart ranking and powerfully dominated all music broadcasting for three weeks, sweeping the pop song business. This was followed by her first solo album double titled “It's Over”, which also succeeded at an all kill, giving her the nickname of “new monster singer.” Her album “Rose” released in March last year also killed all charts within three hours of starting to be sold, living up to her reputation.

AKMU, who released “Play” as a debut album at noon on April 7, is also on a roll. AKMU topped and swept nine sound source charts, including Melon, Korea’s largest sound source site, Mnet, Bugs, and Soribada, within two hours of unveiling their sound source. Furthermore, all the songs in the album ranked among the charts’ top rankings in droves. In particular, AKMU’s current album is all the more meaningful in that Lee Chan-hyuk of AKMU personally composed the songs.  AKMU is evaluated as having enticed music listeners with their healthy and pure music that is unique to them.

The AKMU fever is blowing not only in Korea, but also globally. After releasing their debut album, their songs topped iTunes music charts of five countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore.
