SM Calm about Rescheduling Girls’ Generation Comeback

Deemed the highest card for the first half of this year, Girls’ Generation’s comeback has been pushed back indefinitely. They were scheduled to release the title track of their fourth mini album “Mr. Mr.” on Melon, Genie, Naver, and other music websites on February 19.. However, part of their music video got damaged during post-production, putting their comeback on a hiatus indefinitely.

SM has postponed the release of “Mr. Mr.” and also the rest of the comeback schedule. The group was slated to appear on Mnet “M Countdown” on the 20th, KBS 2 “Music Bank” on the 21st, MBC “Show! Music Core” on the 22nd, and SBS “The Music Trend” on the 23rd and release the album on the 24th, but all the plans have been postponed.

After Girls’ Generation postponed their comeback, other singers got busy calculating their gains and losses. Those who thought they would be up against Girls’ Generation let out a sigh of relief, while those who had pushed back their comeback date to avoid Girls’ Generation are trying to figure out their rival’s new comeback schedule.

Contrast to this hustle and bustle, Girls’ Generation’s agency SM Entertainment (SM hereafter) is said to be concentrating only on finding a solution. Even till the afternoon of the 18th, the staff was in a meeting discussing whether they should retrieve the lost data, re-shoot the music video, or re-edit the video with what they had. In fact, postponing the group’s comeback has actually shifted more attention to Girls’ Generation and raised people’s expectations. The teaser video of “Mr. Mr.” released on February 11 on YouTube has received more than 3 million views as of the 18th. Curious to see how the girls have changed, the fans are trying to temper the wait by watching the teaser video.

Another interesting fact is that it looks as if Girls’ Generation will have an advantage in the face off with another top girl group, 2NE1. After Girls’ Generation announced their comeback schedule, 2NE1 followed suit and announced that their new song would come out at around the same time. Now, however, Girls’ Generation can choose their new release date.

One source said, “It would be interesting to see whether Girls’ Generation will release their new song on the 25th when 2NE1 will release their new song. It will be exciting to see how their rivalry will unfold after an unexpected accident has complicated things further.”
