SISTAR’s Hyo-rin Shines as Soloist

Hyo-rin of group SISTAR has taken her very first step as a shining diva. She revealed her first solo album “Love & Hate” at her showcase held at Ilchi Art Hall in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, on November 26. Looking fit and feminine, she returned with an even stronger vocal power. She sang the title track “Lonely,” followed by “Massage,” “Stalker,” and the double title track “One Way Love.” The acoustic sound of “Lonely” brought out the best of her rich, husky voice while “One Way Love” had all eyes riveted on Hyo-rin’s sexy performance.
“I like acoustic sounds. I wanted to break any stereotype people might have had about my solo album. I put two title tracks in the album because I wanted to show that I can sing and dance and also sing just sitting down,” explained Hyo-rin. Her album includes songs that only Hyo-rin as a soloist can pull off, such as “Closer” and “Falling.”
“As a member of SISTAR, I showed a lot of powerful, energetic performances. I thought that I’d be able to express love and the scars of love in a touching, mature way as a soloist. The album is filled with genres that I like. It will be very different,” she said. “It is a great honor for a member of a group to release a solo album.” Hyo-rin also added that she put everything into her album so as not to bring down what SISTAR has carefully built so far.
“I felt that it was my duty not to mar what I and SISTAR members have built through such hard work. There were times when I got scared that I wouldn’t be able to do well,” she said. “But I gave my best to meet all expectations. I did all that I could do within my power.”
She added, “I am just grateful that people are showing interest. It would be nice if I could top the charts, but I think I’d be happy just to have my efforts recognized.”
Hyo-rin’s solo album has a flashy production team. Top composers took part in the album, including Brave Brothers, Double Side Kick, and Kim Do-hoon, while DOK2, Zico of Block B, Lil Boi of Geeks, and Mad Clown added their voices. The title tracks are “Lonely” and “One Way Love.” Composed by Kim Do-hoon, “Lonely” is a British retro pop with an acoustic guitar sound and a piano accompaniment. “One Way Love,” created by Brave Brothers, is a hip hop slash R&B number with straightforward, candid lyrics about the pain of “one-way love.”
